MISSION AND SERVICE
St. James Town Homework Program
Can happiness and homework really go hand-in-hand? With the support of three churches near the St James Town neighbourhood, they truly can.
The St James Town Homework Club has been providing a safe place for fun and enrichment for children in the neighbourhood for more than fifteen years.
The Club has enjoyed support and leadership from an ecumenical partnership between Rosedale Presbyterian, St. Andrew’s United, and St. Peter and St. Simon-the-Apostle Anglican Church, which serves as the club’s headquarters. Additional support has also been received from the Anglican Foundation and the Cooke’s Fund of the Presbyterian Church in Canada.
Our costs in running the program have increased recently, and your support is welcomed! Please consider making a donation. On this website, there is a “Donation” page, and you can note that your gift should be directed to the Homework Program.
The club welcomes approximately 25 children, ages 6 to 12, from Monday to Friday after school, in St. James Town, one of Canada’s most densely populated and multicultural high-rise communities.
This program is led by volunteers, and supported by staff. A committee of volunteers from the supporting churches also meets to set policies and respond to the students’ changing needs. The Homework Program is free to participating families, except for a small snack fee to defray the cost of food.
The St. James Town Homework program is a place where people of different ages and ethnicities come together to share in the joy of learning. There’s also an opportunity for some recreation to burn off a bit of late-afternoon energy.
In the words of one of the students enrolled, “I love coming here. If I didn’t have the homework club, I’d be at home all alone after school every day.”
Blessed by this ministry? You can help us keep going by donating here.
