RPC Update & Advisory Levels Guide

We use a colour‑coded system to help everyone quickly understand the status of church services and operations. They show how the church is responding to conditions, building issues, staffing, or other factors that may affect services or operations.

Each level includes a colour indicator and a written label so the meaning is clear for everyone, including those with colour‑vision differences.

  • Meaning: General notices that do not affect normal operations. Everything is running as usual, but we want to share helpful or timely information.

    What this level communicates:

    • No action is required

    • No schedule changes

    • No impact on services or office hours

    Examples:

    • Seasonal reminders (icy sidewalks, parking notes)

    • Minor building maintenance that does not affect access

    • Routine updates or clarifications

    • Notes about upcoming evaluations (“We are reviewing heating performance this week”)

  • Meaning: A situation that may affect services or operations. No changes have been made yet, but we want people to stay aware and check back for updates.

    What this level communicates:

    • “Pay attention — something might change.”

    • The church is monitoring conditions or circumstances

    • People should check the page again before attending

    Examples:

    • Weather being monitored (cold, snow, storms, unsafe conditions)

    • Staff or volunteer shortages that might affect office hours

    • Building issues under assessment (heating, plumbing, electrical)

    • Travel conditions that could become unsafe

    • External factors being reviewed (city work, utility notices)

  • Meaning: A confirmed change that requires people to adjust their plans. The church is still operating, but something is different from the usual schedule or format.

    What this level communicates:

    • “Your plans need to change.”

    • The church has made a decision based on conditions

    • Services or operations continue, but in a modified way

    Examples:

    • Sunday service moved to Zoom/online

    • Office hours reduced or temporarily changed

    • Building access limited (e.g., only certain entrances open)

    • Service time changes

    • A ministry or program temporarily relocated or paused

  • Meaning: A serious or potentially unsafe situation requiring immediate attention. This level indicates severity, not necessarily closure.

    What this level communicates:

    • “There is a significant safety concern.”

    • People should use caution and check for instructions

    • The church is actively responding to an urgent situation

    Examples:

    • Building safety concerns (structural issues, alarms, hazards)

    • Power outages or major utility failures

    • Situations where safety cannot be guaranteed without further updates

  • Meaning: The church building or certain operations are not open. This level indicates action taken, not just severity.

    What this level communicates:

    • “Do not come to the building.”

    • Services or operations are cancelled or unavailable

    • Online alternatives may or may not be offered

    Examples:

    • Full building closure

    • Cancellation of all services for the day

    • Office closed due to conditions or emergencies

    • Unsafe travel conditions making in‑person attendance impossible

    • Building access suspended due to repairs or safety issues
