PLAQUES AND MEMORIALS

Memorials at Rosedale Presbyterian Church

Throughout Rosedale Presbyterian Church, you’ll find a number of memorials that honour the rich history and the lives of those who have been part of our community. These plaques and dedications serve as lasting tributes, offering visitors a sense of connection to our past.

  • War Memorial Plaques: Near the flags and cross aisles, you’ll find tablets dedicated to those who served and sacrificed their lives in both World Wars. These plaques stand as solemn reminders of their bravery and the cost of our freedom.

  • Dr. and Mrs. Andrew S. Grant Plaque: On the south wall of the transept, a plaque honours Dr. and Mrs. Andrew S. Grant. Dr. Grant was not only a physician but also a minister who served during the Yukon Gold Rush in 1898-99. This tribute, presented by their children, commemorates their contributions to both faith and medicine.

  • Forward Movement Plaque: Just west of Dr. Grant’s plaque, another memorial honours the youth of the church during the Forward Movement, recognizing the spirit and energy of young congregants who shaped our church’s journey.

  • Baptismal Font: This font, honouring Jennie L. Risdon, was a gift from her son. It stands as a symbol of new beginnings and the continuing legacy of faith within our community.

  • Floral Arrangement Stand: The stand for floral arrangements in front of the lectern was donated in memory of Arthur Emerson MacGregor and his wife, Alice. It adds a touch of beauty to our worship space, honouring their memory.

  • Organ Dedication: Our organ, which fills the sanctuary with music, is dedicated to those who lost their lives in the Two World Wars. It serves as both a memorial and a source of inspiration during worship.

  • Iona Cross: The most recent addition to our memorials is the magnificent Iona Cross, placed on the communion table. This cross was donated in 1984 by the family of Laura Margaret Keith in her memory, symbolizing faith and devotion.

As you reflect on these memorials, we hope you feel the deep sense of history and community that has shaped Rosedale Presbyterian Church over the past century. We invite you to join us in worship, to find your favourite window, and to take your place in our church’s ongoing story.
